Mimi Thorisson‘s story is one of those sweet tales that belong in a romantic movie; a story full of love, travels, dreams come true and cooking. A lot of cooking.
She grew up scampering between the burners of Hong Kong restaurants and small cafés in Paris and the south of France, where she vacationed with her French grandmother. An exotic combination for a little girl who was deeply enamored of food and everything connected to good cuisine.
She met her husband, Icelandic photographer Oddur, as a result of her successful career in the fashion world, the media and television, and settled in Paris with him.
With three children and yet another one on the way, Mimi Thorisson and her husband decided to look for a big and special place where they could lead a family life. They found what they were looking for in Médoc, a region well-known for its wine production located north of Bordeaux and a true paradise surrounded by castles, vineyards, white, sandy beaches, forests and wild boars.
Mimi Thorisson ‘s family—and 14 dog— could then enjoy a life closely connected to nature and far from worldly noise, stress and pollution. It took her some time to adapt to her new situation: a woman whose heart was divided between Hong Kong and Paris, two large and active metropolises…living in the countryside? Nonetheless, she soon discovered it was a very pleasant situation.
For the past four years Mimi Thorisson has been able to develop her greatest passion, cooking, and decided to share her culinary experiences a couple years ago by creating her wonderful blog, Manger, which is full of exquisite recipes, explained set-by-step and illustrated with fantastic pictures.
Our protagonist is also an avid reader and book-lover. There isn’t a corner in her house that isn’t filled with books. The one thing she’d be incapable of living without would be books; or on second thought, books and shoes!
As is the case in all fairy tales, another one of her biggest dreams recently came true (last October) when she published her first book: A KITCHEN IN FRANCE, A Year of Cooking in My Farmhouse, published by Clarkson Potter / Random House in New York, for sale on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
It tells a tale of food, of cooking, of the country she loves and the people she shares her extraordinary life with. It’s a book made enthusiastically and straight from the heart; an emotive and life-long goal attained.
