We created Eric’s Blog two years ago with the aim of providing guests staying at one of our luxury suites and apartments in Barcelona, Madrid, or Amsterdam with the best tips in terms of local cuisine, architecture, and culture in each of the cities where Eric Vökel Boutique Apartments are found. Off the beaten track, our ideas are a far cry from the usual places featured in run-of-the-mill travel guides and tourist traps.
For this reason, this time around we chose the El Canalla restaurant. A wine bar loaded with personality and style where delectable tapas and platillos are the real stars of the show.
Located in the delightful neighborhood of Sarrià, El Canalla offers fresh market Mediterranean cuisine following the precepts of the farm-to-table movement in a recently renovated yet truly authentic setting, while maintaining the original essence of the winery it once was completely intact.
El Canalla has a spectacular sunny terrace located right on the square of Sarrià church, which is the perfect place to enjoy the top quality cuisine it serves all year. It also has the charming “El Villano” hall—a great spot to sample the best wines—where luncheons and private events are held.
What’s more, during the coldest months of the year, it is where you can enjoy the “La Carta del Carbón (Charcoal Menu)”—delicious dishes which are charcoal grilled using their Josper charcoal oven. This adds that unmistakable smoky taste to classic meat, fish, and vegetable dishes such as Green asparagus with romesco sauce, El Prat artichokes, and Truffled parmentier with egg and seasonal wild mushrooms, which are served as tasty side dishes to Deboned pig’s trotters with citrus sweet potato, Longline-caught hake trunk with baked potato, onion confit, and green garlic, and 20-day rib eye steak—the crowning jewel of the meats menu—, among many other options.
Who can resist such a tempting array of dishes?
