Merci Paris: a not-to-be-missed landmark in the French capital

If you’re in Paris—whether for business or pleasure— Merci Paris is well worth a visit, the store opened in March 2009 which is now de rigueur if you’re looking for the best selection in fashion, design, and decor, a genuine landmark in the French capital.

Merci Paris is housed in a historical building—a former wallpaper factory spanning more than 150 years of history—spread out over three floors, totaling more than 1,500 square meters, with a magnificent courtyard and a spectacular glass roof that is the centerpiece of this fabulous store. Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, the founders of Merci Paris, entrusted architect Valérie Mazerat with the restoration of the building which is located in the heart of the Haut-Marais district—one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the French capital where cosmopolitan restaurants and shops can be found alongside spectacular mansions converted into museums such as the Carnavalet Museum, the Picasso Museum, the Cognacq-Jay Museum, and Victor Hugo’s House, among many others.

Merci Paris is a veritable treasure trove of contemporary creations, limited editions in both fashion and decor, period furniture, a marvelous selection of household textiles, lighting, and essential accessories for people like me who always look for items with a unique style and personality.

Fashionistas who visit the City of Light and Love, locals, and young students with a spark of curiosity consider Merci Paris a genuine Parisian landmark, a cult and pilgrimage destination. Whether for large projects or small budgets, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for at Merci Paris.

On my last visit to Paris, I simply couldn’t resist. I bought the latest volume of blogger and photographer Scott Schuman’s The Sartorialist, and had a delicious coffee at the Cinéma Café, an amazing place to relax inside Merci Paris itself, while I skimmed the first pages of this brilliant book. Both are not-to-be-missed.

Welcome to the Eric’s Vökel world!
