On my last trip to my beloved Andalusia, just two months ago, I visited one of the most charming maritime cities in the region: Cadiz. Almost by chance, I ended up at the El Lucero del Muelle (The Wharf Star), formerly known as Bar Lucero, one of those places with a lifetime of tradition and character, a long-life bar which is making history once again.
It is a bar frequented by those passing through, which has been recently renovated with great taste, and in which a fun, original and very colourful feature stands out: the yellow lamps hanging over the table. They seemed to have been designed specifically for the place, but that is not the case. They happen to be the Santorini model, designed by Sputnik Estudio in 2014 for the company Marset.
Another restaurant immediately came to mind, El Cercle, this time in Barcelona, where I fell in love with another model of ceiling lamp: the fabulous Pleat Box, designed by Xavier Mañosa of Apparatu & Mashallah in 2011, also for Marset.
It has to be said that Marset is not a commonplace lighting brand. It is one of those companies that create an impact due to their quality, design and humanity, a true vocation for good design, “perceived as the flawless execution of each project to which we devote our greatest efforts. Because we seek a well-made object, one which is also innovative and able to surprise, to thrill and stay in the memory”, as they themselves put it.
Furthermore, since every effort deserves its reward, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness recently granted Marset the 2015 National Design Award, the highest award given in Spain to companies that use design successfully in their innovation strategies.
This is a form of recognition only available to a select few, a group which Marset is now a part of. Because designs such as Discocó, Scotch Club, Mercer, Nenúfar, Camp, Nolita or Scantling, among many others, will never go unnoticed.
Private customers, offices, restaurants and hotels can attest to it.
