Eric Vökel had the chance to participate as a partner in the incomparable setting of the Surf City Festival held last March in Barcelona. We had the pleasure of having Elisa Routa, one of the greatest creative minds on the international surf scene, stay with us at our Eric Vökel Industria Suites, located in a wonderful modernist property next to the Sagrada Familia Cathedral.
For those who move like fish in water in this peculiar surfing lifestyle, Elisa Routa is a highly talented and indispensable young woman; an exceptional writer and photographer, her texts and poetry are always accompanied by a series of analogue images, with an aesthetic and poetic vision of a simply complex universe where everything is questioned, torn apart, narrated and revealed.
Her writing transmits, moves and excites. Her photographs bring us closer to real stories, moments and stirring happenstances, finally becoming an incorruptible legacy which will forever remain in our memories.
During the Surf City Festival, surf and art converged in a unique and emblematic place, the Convent del Àngels, a historical monument of the city of Barcelona built in 1562. It is a true gothic style gem, the perfect stage for holding a ceremony in which a collective display of art inspired by the concept of Surf Vs. City lives side by side with divergences and conflicting harmony.
The first festival brought together 33 artists, while national and international premieres of the seventh art, installations combining the worlds of surf and skateboarding, the first market exclusively focused on surf culture in Barcelona, concerts, performances and many other different activities made up an unforgettable day.
And Elisa Routa was there, after a night of well-deserved rest at our Eric Vökel Industria Suites in Barcelona, in an extraordinary and remodeled luxury suite. The weekend getaway of the charismatic French artist became the perfect precursor to living a day devoted to her great passion.
“I like to work hard and be nice to people. That’s what I have written above my computer screen to remind myself of what’s really important.” Simple and humble, that’s what Elisa Routa is really like.
It was truly a pleasure meeting her.
