BD Barcelona Design: Design and Art Made in Barcelona

Shopping/ Barcelona

BD Barcelona Design is perhaps the greatest and best proponent of world-class design created in Barcelona. It was established as a small production company with the original name of Bocaccio Design in 1972 by the architects of Studio Per—made up of Óscar Tusquets, Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet—, together with Mireia Riera, with the aim of producing the projects that other companies in the sector rejected time and again.

The founding team of Bocaccio Design, who were true visionary entrepreneurs, had the help and support of Oriol Regàs, a well-known businessman of the Barcelona nightlife scene. He founded the most famous nightclub of the decade, the iconic Bocaccio where the Gauche Divine—the most influential artists and intellectuals living in the Catalan capital, who came from all over the world—, among which the founders of BD Barcelona Design stand out, would come together.

Although the early years of Bocaccio Design were full of uncertainty and frenzied, the members of its team held genuine respect and admiration for the great masters, from Gaudí to Dalí, including Mackintosh and Le Corbusier. This is the reason why this magnificent manufacturer survived different crises to finally become BD Barcelona Design in the third millennium. B.D Barcelona Design holds the rights to reproduce the furniture designs of geniuses such as Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí, as well as Jaime Hayón, Ross Lovegrove, Konstantin Grcic, Ettore Sottsass, Javier Mariscal, Óscar Tusquets, Pep Bonet and Lluís Clotet, among many others.

Aside from reproductions of furniture by Gaudí and Dalí, among its iconic pieces are the three-piece plastic “BDlove” collection by Ross Lovegrove, the series “Happy Hour” by industrial designer Alfredo Häberli and “Showtime”, the collection designed by Jaime Hayón presented in 2006.
