Barcelona never ceases to amaze me. After settling (for good) in this enchanting city—capital of the Mediterranean—a few years ago, I’ve been gradually discovering places that you just can’t help but fall in love with at first sight. Espai Joliu is definitely one of those places.
Espai Joliu is the embodiment of a new store concept, located in the heart of Poblenou, one of Barcelona’s up-and-coming neighborhoods, where things are always happening and distinctively artistic and creative events are held.
It’s a plant concept store that’s also a cafeteria, art gallery, and venue for all types of events, photo shoots, publicity sessions, or workshops.
It’s a breath of fresh air in a city which was recently witness to the end of an era, when l´Hivernacle, one of my favorite places, finally bid adieu to the neighborhood of Sants, leaving Barcelona a little bereft of authentic places with great character.
This was until Espai Joliu opened its doors to delight us with this highly original, extremely attractive, and unmissable oasis of relaxation.
Kick back and relax among a lovely array of flowers and plants, as you savor a delicious cup of specialty coffee by Nomad—which goes perfectly with avocado toast or tahini and honey toast, gluten-free jams, or exquisite homemade organic cakes—while you peruse some of the most popular national and international magazines on the market today, such as Kinfolk and Cereal, in a place where the decor also deserves special mention: in true dirty chic style, with flaking and unpainted walls, reclaimed floors, restored tables, the highly original stairs and counter, all of which come together to create a one-of-a-kind ambience.
Go to Poblenou and visit Espai Joliu, you won’t regret it!
