The Tibidabo Amusement Park has been a silent witness to the spectacular metamorphosis of Barcelona—a transformation that has similarly taken place on its own premises throughout its more than 100 years of history to constantly adapt to changes, new social situations, trends, and new technologies.

Salvador Andreu i Grau—more popularly known as Dr. Andreu—a pharmaceutical entrepreneur and a key figure in the city’s history in the last century, was the prime mover behind the amusement park and and the development of the area on the mountain, also creating the funicular that still takes thousands of locals and visitors through this beautiful setting today.

The conversion of the mountain began in the mid-1900s, turning it into an important tourist attraction. On October 29, 1901 the avenue, tram and funicular were inaugurated.
