The Village by &tradition: a new exhibition format

Just in from my native country, Denmark, comes a design initiative created in 2010 whose philosophy brings tradition and innovation together in a single context. The aim is to revolutionize but also pay homage to Danish design, one of the great fundamental pillars of the industry for over 100 years.

Given the name &tradition, the idea builds a bridge between heritage, tradition, and contemporary creation by remodeling, redefining, and reinventing materials, techniques, and forms. The creative library in real estate and lighting, unique to &tradition, encompasses all that has happened and been designed from 1930 to the present, including designs from internationally famous artists such as Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Norm, Architects, Samuel Wilkinson, Space Copenhagen, plus the most internationally renowned Spanish designer, Jaime Hayón, among others.

This special connection between the ultimate masters and the new designers of the 21st century has the goal of defining future classics, a relationship between the great 20th-century designers – the avant-garde of their time- and the today’s creators, who will define the innovative icons of tomorrow.

Among the proposals from &tradition we find a new exhibition concept known as The Village by &tradition, a showroom that lives up to the Danish firm’s expectations and philosophy: using small-scale architectural buildings, a village is formed within a large warehouse.

It is a contemporary version of an exhibition hall converted into a coherent, minimalist, spatial art installation, a work of artists and architects such as Donald Judd, Richard Serra and Peter Eisenman.

The Village by &tradition is arranged according to the typical structural elements one might come across in a small village: a main street, an alley, a tower, and a city wall. Each house in The Village by &tradition -twelve in all- is built using a completely monochrome matte exterior which reveal interiors with distinct functions and purposes.

The result is an original and exclusive showroom in constant evolution and redecoration for the inspiration of the clients of this extraordinary Danish firm.
