On one of the most charming streets of the city of Barcelona, located in a 500 m2 former factory, we can find one of the galleries that combines contemporary art and the most prestigious architecture and design of the 20th century: the Miquel Alzueta Gallery.
In the heart of Séneca Street, called the Soho of Gracia by Condé Nast Traveller, galleries, antique shops and a large number of interior decoration and design stores are crammed into a pedestrian area covering just 200 metres. The Miquel Alzueta Gallery is located in a small oasis of creativity between two of the city’s main thoroughfares.
The works in the Miquel Alzueta Gallery are complemented by those of two other venues, the first of them in the small mediaeval village of Casavells in L’Empordà, with exhibitions by well-established artists, and the second, The Laboratory, newly-opened and situated in Enric Granados Street in Barcelona. This is a fledgling gallery axis which displays projects by young artists with a more avant-garde and daring approach, such as the work of Júlia Mariscal in the exhibition titled Forat al Terra, video art creations by Bruno Ollé and Bernat Daviu within the framework of Loop 2015 and a photography exhibition by the Apartment magazine.
The main Miquel Alzueta Gallery is a great example of contemporary art trends and leading designers.
Iván Franco Fraga is one of the latest artists to exhibit at the gallery. The hyperrealist artist and photographer from Ourense was selected for the 2015 Guasch Coranty Painting Award and received an Honourable Mention in the 2014 Mod Portrait Competition. His portraits, halfway between photographs and pictorial works, do not leave anyone indifferent. He decodes and updates Greek mythology, playing with the meaning of reality and simulation to adapt them to images closer to the 21st century.
An essential visit for lovers of art and design in constant artistic evolution.
